Manzanar

Manzanar War Relocation Center was one of ten camps at which Japanese American citizens and resident Japanese aliens were interned during World War II. Located at the foot of the imposing Sierra Nevada in eastern California's Owens Valley, Manzanar has been identified as the best preserved of these camps.

Activities

Interpretive Center
The interpretive center includes a twenty-minute film, 8,000 feet of exhibits, and a bookstore. The center is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily.

Auto Tour
This is a 3.2 mile, self-guided auto tour of the camp with a tour description and map is available to help visitors explore the site.

Guided Tour
Rangers offer guided tours on a regular basis. These programs are listed in these News and Activities sections on our website at www.nps.gov/manz. Tours range from 30 minute to 90 minutes.

Self Guided Tour
Visitors are encouraged to explore the site on their own. You can explore the gardens in block 22, the chicken farm, the orchards or any of the other areas of the site not on the main tour road.
